Writing the book is easy – getting readers – a lot of readers – to read it; now that is the hard part.

That’s why Open Door Publications began the Winter Writers’ Weekend four year ago – to help people to learn how to write, publish and market their books. The first event, in 2013, featured six speakers and 15 participants in a one-day format. Since then, we’ve doubled our speakers, expanded to a three-day event, and have grown to about 40 participants.

Each year we bring back some of our most popular speakers as well as add new workshops so that authors who attend receive the most up-to-date information on the ever-changing world of book publishing.

Last year our most popular workshop was “Have a Book, Now What? The Art of Making People Interested in Your Book (and you)” by Dan Smith, CEO of Smith Publicity. Dan is returning this year to repeat the workshop.

Dan does much more than just talk about ways to sell your book. He will bring a staff publicist to work personally with the workshop attendees, who will divide into small groups and select book to create a publicity pitch for. Each group will try to develop the most compelling pitch.

Dan will then lead a discussion on each of the pitches and the participants will vote on the best one. One person from the winning group will be chosen to receive on free month of comprehensive publicity service from Smith Publicity!

The days of sending out review copies and/or press releases and waiting for things to happen are long gone! With thousands of books coming out each and every day, regardless of genre, an author must employ creativity and be determined, patient and optimistic.  There are dozens of avenues available today for authors to get the word out about their books. Dan’s presentation is guaranteed to give everyone some great ideas on promoting their book.

He’s only one of many speakers at the 2016 Winter Writers’ Weekend, March 4-6, 2016, at Lambertville House, Lambertville, NJ. Make plans to attend now and register at the low price of $150. Prices will be going up as we get closer to the date, so act now!
